What is a Chimney Flashing?

Chimney flashings are metal pieces to keep water from entering your home.

An entire chimney flashing consists of:

Bottom Pan Metal: Usually a 5 x 8 sheet of metal embedded into the chimney and helps water run off from the step flashings.
Top Pan Metal: usually a 5 x 12 sheet of metal embedded into the chimney.
Step Flashings: there should be one step flashing per row of roofing.

Counter Flashing: these fold over the step flashings and are embedded into the chimney.
